Women in VIDRA

We are delighted to have a rapidly growing contingent of girls and women participating in VIDRA races and events!

VIDRA’s Board of Directors includes several women and we continue to promote off-road motorcycle riding and racing as an equal opportunity sport here on Vancouver Island!

The MudHunniez

Backstory

The MudHunniez was born out of the VIHSS several years ago when there were still only a few women racing in our hare scramble series. A couple of them got together to form a women’s race team and gave their team the name “MudHunniez”, inviting a few others from the VIHSS to join them on this team.

The MudHunniez acknowledged that there has been a gender gap in riding and racing, where often girls and women don’t have the same opportunities or encouragement as their male counterparts to jump on a dirtbike or progress through the sport. In speaking with women, we realized that some of these impediments included having access to transportation for their bike, mechanical confidence, lack of time due to other family obligations, and issues related to confidence, or not wanting to “hold up” their male friends on a group ride.

Their mission from the start, was to increase female ridership in the race series and generally on the island, by creating opportunities for women to give the sport a try.

MudHunniez Events

The MudHunniez, as part of VIDRA, have responded by hosting organized event for women each year.

The Mudhunniez events are non-competitive and aim to offer a supportive environment where women and girls can come to ride dirtbikes, build up their riding skills and confidence with help from experienced coaches, while also meeting new friends.

Follow @Mudhunniez on Instagram or Facebook to stay up to date with rides and events.

As a direct result of bringing women together at these events, we’ve seen a huge increase in women riding the trails on any given Sunday, as well, we’ve been blown away with the increase in the number of female riders at our races!

Supporting female riders & racers

As a direct result of the increase of women and girls coming out to race, we have been able to add even more race classes to our Hare Scramble line-up! We have classes suited for beginners through to experts which offers girls and women the option to continue to “move up” as their skills and endurance increase.
